Awaken to Good Mourning edition by Mark E Hundley Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

I recently lost my mother to cancer and cirrhosis of the liver (complication from Type II diabetes). She was my world. Even though i'm a licensed mental health counselor, experiencing grief first hand is a completely different world. I've often had a sense of floating through my day, living on autopilot. I've read half of the book so far, trying to digest the wisdom as I live through the grief. Awaken to Good Mourning has normalized my experiences and provided understanding to the reasons why I am feeling what I feel. Grieving is hard. But there is no getting around it. We have to live it, move through it, and accept where we are in the process. Mr. Hundley's book has been a support in this.

Awaken to Good Mourning edition by Mark E Hundley Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

Written with feeling and understanding. I would recommend Awaken to Good Mourning for anyone going through a loss, whether it be current or in the past. Also would be good for anyone who has a friend in mourning. It would give insight on how to help or communicate with those going through a loss.
The author does an amazing job with this book. A must read for those who have suffered loss. Especially good for those dealing with children who are grieving.
An excellent book for those who have experienced the loss of a family member.
I have given away 15 or 20 of these books
I read Awaken to Good Mourning during a time of crisis in my life. The book served as a map for the journey of grief and confusion ahead, and the voice of the author, Mark Hundley, came through as the voice of a wise friend walking along side me.

I appreciate especially the practicality of the book. More than merely speak of mourning and loss in esoteric, theoretical ways, the book offers lenses, tools, and questions for use as you process your thoughts and feelings. Today, I find myself in the phase of Mid-Mourning Hundley describes in the book. After I wake each day, I return to the Awaken to Good Mourning, review the lines I've underlined (there are quite a few), and conceptualize how I will approach my work of mourning that day. Each time I return to the book, I find a question or concept relevant to the mourning task immediately ahead of me.

But Awaken to Good Mourning is about more than grief and loss--it's a book about life, about how to live well. Hundley shares much from his own story of loss, and you see how his loss led him to ask questions about the sort of man he wanted to become, the sort of life he wanted to lead. Hundley used his loss as an opportunity for growth. Those words may sounds trite, but in the midst of my own crisis, I found the truth therein. Hundley's book asks seemingly pedestrian but covertly radical questions about what it means to live life to the full. The questions are pedestrian in as much as we fail to ask them in earnest, but their radical nature is revealed in an honest confrontation with their answers.

I highly recommend Awaken to Good Mourning for anyone experiencing loss through death, or any other major life transition (divorce, unemployment, disability, etc.). The book remains for me a welcome companion and trusted compass. Too, I recommend the book to professional helpers (therapists, case workers, pastors, chaplains) looking to better understand grief. Hundley's witness to his own loss is, by itself, reason enough for anyone interested in the human condition to read the book.
This is a wonderful book for anyone that is going through the process of mourning. The author has made it such an easy read, couldn't put it down, read in one sitting. Wonderful resources in the back of the book. I am not there yet, but I am looking forward to a Good Mourning. Blessings to you Mark Hundley for writing this book, and I look forward to any other of your further writings.
I've been reading quite a few books on grief and mourning since the death of my husband and this is one of the best so far. It is full of practical advice from someone who has been there and survived and even thrived. However, it is written by someone who has an abundance of resources that many of us just don't have, which is why I couldn't give it 5 stars. I do recommend reading this, wherever you are on this journey none of us wanted to take.
This book is the best of its kind I've encountered. It helped me a great deal after the loss of my mother. I took a grief recovery class at the same time I was reading it & they paralleled each other beautifully. I've purchased it as a gift for several friends & relatives since then. Highly recommended!
